A Note from the Author

Being educated as an elementary school counselor, I certainly was aware of the multitude and intensity of human feelings and, being an animal person, have thoroughly enjoyed the presence of animals in my life. I was aware that animals had feelings, too, but I didn’t give them much thought. I just responded to whatever surfaced in my pets’ behavior, and that was as far as my animal sensitivity went. Meeting and getting to know my cat, Regal, was a real eye-opener. A force of nature, to be sure, Regal helped me grow in awareness of the depth of her feelings and her personality. She was a cat, yes, but an individual—one of a kind! As I came to understand Regal better, I felt more able to connect with all animals. Even the process of writing Regal’s story has been an extraordinary experience of transformation. My attempt to do justice to this magnificent feline has taken me well beyond my limits, into a deeper understanding of animals as unique spiritual beings.
